eal/d ideas: free printable clock for eal/d withdrawal lessons
I saw this idea in one of the schools I worked in. It solves the problem of having to go and collect the children in your withdrawal group every time they have an EAL/D lesson.
This system also has the benefit of giving the child ownership of the process of getting to his or her EAL/D lesson.
It should work for children from Year 2 up however check before you start using them that your EAL/D students can tell the time using an analog clock.
Here's what you do:
1. Print, cut out and laminate one clock for each of your EAL/D students.
2. Explain to your EAL/D student in one of your withdrawal lessons how this process will work. Practise telling the time with them in English during this lesson.
3. Every morning before school begins, use a whiteboard marker to show the time of the student's EAL/D lesson that day and leave the laminated clock on the class teacher's desk. Also write the child's name on the bottom. The class teacher then knows what time the student will be leaving for his or her lesson.
4. The class teacher then puts the clock on the child's desk at the beginning of the day so the child knows what time to leave.
