Wellness: When We Feel Better, We Can Do Better
Paying attention to our emotions is important because our emotions drive how we think about the world and these thoughts drive our behaviour. (recent reference? I know I read this somewhere recently)
Many people don't know this so they may feel unhappy and not know why and/or pursue things that they believe will make them happy and then find that they don't.
Understanding our emotions - tuning in to them in our bodies and minds, being able to name them and being able to understand what has made us feel a certain way helps is empowering. We can learn to be aware of, understand and manage our emotions/self-regulate so that we can enjoy good relationships with others, feel well, happy and confident and pursue our goals (Kranzlera et al; 2015)
UK: "Since 2003 the incidence of anxiety symptoms in CYP recorded in primary care has more than tripled, with a comparatively stable trend in the incidence of anxiety diagnoses." (jOHN, mARCHANT ET AL)
Mindfulness, yoga and emotion education icreased pro-social behaviour, self-efficacy and self-reported improvements in well-being.
